Thuckalay Christ Church which is situated in the prime location in Mettukadai was established by late medical evangelist Dr. G. James of Neyyoor in the year 1985. Mrs. Porulayi Poruthiyudayal came forward and helped for the construction of the church by giving her land. On 1st November 1895, Mr. Vedanayagam was appointed as the Preceptor and as a teacher in the church.
● On 20th November 1897, foundation stone laid for the old thatched roofed church in the presence of Dr. G. James, Mrs. Porulayi Poruthiyudayal, Mr. Maasillamani teacher, Mr. Gnanamani, Mr.Joseph and Mr.David.
● Founder Dr. G. James received God’s calling and entered into eternity on 13th may 1901 at the age of 48. After his sudden demise, his wife and then his sons Dr. Thomas James, Mr. Gunapathy James took charge of the responsibility of the church.
● In the early days, Late. Mr. Joseph deacon’s grand mother Mrs. Porulayi Poruthiyudayal’s family and late. Mr. P Muthaiah deacon’s grand father Mr. Jebagnanam Preceptor’s families were the first members of our church.
● Dr. Thomas James conducted the church worships and also appointed a few church workers and took care of the Sunday school. Many people joined the worship and became members of the church.
● During this period, father of Mr. Edward Jose, Late. Mr. David’s family, Mr. Jebamony advocate from Kaariyavilai, Mr. Joshua head master from Kadamanguzhi, Mr. Charles Rose advocate from Mullanginavizhai, Mr. Vethamoni advocate family from Eeathavilai, Mr. Appavu advocate family from Thazhakkanilai, Mr. Nallathambi advocate family from Devicode, Mr. S.K. Yesudhas advocate family from Kallukootam, Mr. D. Muthaiah family from Oreph Panavilai, Mr. Devadhasan advocate family from Senamvilai, Mr. Muthaiah advocate family from Moolachel, Mr. Devadhasan evangelist family from Kotticode took part in the church services and became members of the church.
● In 1925, the Church was renovated and extended.
● In 1934, the Church campus was extended towards the west and a house was also constructed for Dr. Thomas James to stay.
● In 1945 Dr. Thomas James published the Golden Jubilee church history.
● In 1954, our Church affiliated to South Travancore diocese with the efforts of the Pastor Mr. I.R.H. Gnanadhason in Neyyoor. Mr. Abhishekamoni was appointed as the first Evangelist.
● In 1955, the first church committee was elected by the members.
● In 1970, Church became pastorate with 2 branch churches, Oreph Panavilai and Keezhakalkurichi
● In 1978, foundation stone for the current church building was laid by the bishop Rt. Rev. Selvamoni in the presence of Rev. R. Robertson, presbyter.
● New Church works resumed on 28th April 1980 with the prayer of Rev. R.Robertson. Since the old building was completely demolished, church services were conducted in the house of Mr. V. Samraj till 18th April 1981. Worships resumed in the church on 19th April 1981.
● New Church building was dedicated on 24th December 1982 by the bishop Rt. Rev. G. Christudhas in the presence of Rev. M. Gnanadhas, presbyter. A foundation stone was laid for the mission house on the same day.
● In 1989, mission house works started and was dedicated on 28th October 1990 by Rev. P.J. Jeyaseelan, district minister in the presence of Rev. S. B. Hudson Manohara Dhas presbyter.
● To commemorate the centenary of the church, the building was extended and a bell tower was constructed. This was dedicated on 29th October 1995 by the bishop Rt.Rev. G. Christhudhas in the presence of Rev.S. Issiah, presbyter.
● On 8th February 1996, Keralapuram Sunday school was started in the premises of Mr. Aruldhas and later moved to the premises of Mr. N. Varghese.
● First missionary Mr. A. Alphonse, DMPB was dedicated on 1st December 1996 during the 101th church day.
● On 3rd December 1999, a land was purchased for the Keralapuram mission field.
● On 1st march 2000, a bible woman has been appointed to help the church ministry.
● On 29th August 2007, the stage on the first floor and the office room was dedicated by Rev. M. Dennis, presbyter.
● Since 1st April 2013, all the church accounts are made computerized and monthly printed receipts are distributed.
● On 1st December 2013, renovated church building and truss work on the 1st floor are dedicated by the bishop Rt.Rev.G. Devakadatcham in the presence of Rev. S. Brainard Daniel, presbyter.
● On 13th August 2017, a new 15 KVA silent genset was dedicated by Rev. Y. Yonathan, presbyter.
● On 20th may 2018, renovated mission house was dedicated by Rev. S. Wilson, presbyter.
● Since 1st December 2018, a news bulletin is published every quarter.
● On 23rd December 2018, all the old benches in the church are replaced with 72 new teak benches and dedicated by Rev. S. Wilson, presbyter.
● Since 1st may 2019 the church is kept open during the week days for the believers to come and pray and a day care worker is appointed to help with prayer requests.
● On 12th may 2019, surveillance system was implemented and dedicated by Rev. S. Wilson.
● On 29th September 2019, a multi-colour programmable led verse board was dedicated by Rev. J.S. Jaisingh, presbyter
● On the occasion of 125th anniversary, a mission field at the Alleri hills has been selected on 9th march 2020 through NMSI and foundation was laid for a church construction.
● Since march 2020, Sunday worships are broadcasted to the internet in live.
● On 20th December 2020, a stone arch was dedicated by Rev. D. John Rethinamony, district minister in the presence of Rev. J.S. Jaisingh presbyter in commemoration of the 125th anniversary
● On 11th October 2021, renovated office room was dedicated by Rev. JS. Jaisingh, presbyter also, a PTZ camera and a LED tv are dedicated.
● On 29th May 2022, Mr. S. Sacrates Santhakumar was dedicated as the missionary for the Alleri mission field.
● In commemoration of the 125th church anniversary, “Christ Jesus” church at Alleri hills was dedicated on 10th August 2022 by Rev. S. Christopher Vijayan, NMSI Gen. Secretary in the presence of Rev. J.S. Jaisingh, presbyter
● Since 2023, the Church premises are cleaned by voluntary members on the first Saturday of every month.
● On 12th June 2023, the mission house constructed at Alleri mission field was dedicated by the Vellore Bishop Dr.J.H. Sharma Nityanandam in the presence of our pastor Rev.J.S. Jaisingh
● On 15th September 2023, fencing for the Keralapuram mission campus was laid with the prayer of Rev.JS. Jaisingh, presbyter
● On 1st Oct 2023, foundation stone for the Vestry was laid by Rev.JS. Jaisingh and the works are in progress.
